Escultura de la Tierra (Sculpture of earth). Mexican Ceramics

in Los Pinos Cultural Complex

This exhibition where diverse artists, institutes, museums and galleries collaborated, gathers different works that organically connects hands and earth. The 700 pieces that conforms it are presented in five stages:

  • Ceramics presence in ancient cultures: Olmecan, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, Mixtec, Mayan, Mexica.

  • Colonial and popular shows the richness and functionality of ceramics, also the influences from Spain, Holland, United Kingdom and France, resulting in appropriation and perfection of techniques such as majolica.

  • Indigenous and popular refers the diversity and value of the artisanal techniques of Mexican indigenous potters and ceramists.

  • Modern revalues the indigenous and popular traditions as part of the mixed ethnic identity.

  • Contemporary Nucleus, presenting works from diverse creators that finds in clay and ceramics the ideal element for the explorations of their practice.
     

The unity of the exhibit knits a history that allows us to recognize the importance of this art, as well as the unique beauty of each piece.
